These pictures are gorgeous! Really atmospheric and powerful. And symbolic of so much - scaffolding, platforms, and then what could be on top - the hangman's noose or the guillotine.

Think the black is a good choice too - shows them off really well.

Thank you Clare! I have had a lot of positive feedback in regards to this particular series of paintings, with everybody coming up with their own individual interpretations. Many have commented on the first painting in particular suggesting that it could be portrayed as a modern take on crucifixion. The second painting in the series remains my favourite though, being the first completed and more subtle in composition.

when I showed Phil the photos he said he could see a shoulder blade in the 2nd one. Must be a good set of paintings if they get people talking!
